Project Name:

Week Without Walls

Project Description:

The Week Without Walls project is an opportunity for our ES students to experience learning and connecting beyond the classroom walls. Students will be paired with other classrooms and experience what it is like to live and learn in other parts of the world. This will help them celebrate diversity and accept differences. During the Week Without Walls project, students will share their culture with each other, reflecting on similarities and differences.

Target Grade Levels:

Grades K-5

Project Duration:

February 22-26, 2015 will be the Week Without Wall project launch. However, we would like to continue building connections until June 2015.

How will students communicate with each other, and share their learning in this project?

We hope students will interact each day during the Week Without Walls launch, forming friendships and sharing their daily life as much as possible, to build global and personal connections. Sharing can take place through:
1. Student and classroom blogs2. Twitter3. Instagram4. Skype or Google Hangouts5. A culminating video

Handshake Activity:

Students share pictures and a short greeting, telling a little about themselves and asking questions that they would like to know about their global friends.

Guiding Questions

How are we alike? How are we different? What can we learn from each other? How can we help each other?

Project Goals:

Students involved in Week Without Walls project will:
-Meet students from around the world
-Become aware of cultural similarities and differences
-Realize the benefits of diversity
-Learn to be accepting of others' differences
-Experience learning from each other in a non-traditional environment

How We Will Measure Student Contribution:

All students, of all grade levels, will be able to share photos, videos, and drawings. Older students will contribute blog posts and tweets, too.

How We Will Assess Students:

Students will publish a culminating project, showing what they have learned from their new global friends. This project could be a drawing, a video, or other form of online presentation. All projects will be uploaded in some form.

How We Will Celebrate Students' Success and Foster Self-Reflection:

The culminating presentation will celebrate all that students have learned and will include a reflection on how this will change the way they view the world.

As the ES Learning Coach, I will be the project moderator and help match classes and facilitate ideas. You can reach me at:Email: jclark@aisr.orgTwitter: @jancey5Skype: janceyc
